I totally forgot it was Juneteenth...

...until Padre Rob reminded me.

See also
here.

And congratulations and thanks to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick for making the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
a state formally celebrating Juneteenth.

Here in the Bay Area, big celebrations this past Sunday in San Francisco and also in Oakland and South Berkeley.

Now everybody sing.

I can't believe I missed this one. We celebrate it at Immanuel when it's on a Sunday. It's really a very important date and ought to be better known. Thanks for the reminder.

You're welcome. My Massachusetts friends (most of whom love the new governor, Deval Patrick) are excited about the day being recognized in Massachusetts now. In Oakland and SF it's long been a big thing especially since many African Americans came here from Texas -- and Louisiana (which could lead to a whole BBQ discussion; the local BBQ reflects these origins) mostly to work in the shipyards during WWII. (Vs. people who came up from Alabama and Mississippi et al. to Detroit and other industrial cities some decades earlier during the Great Migration.)
