Latest is in this from this story in The Guardian.

The Gap is investigating now.

Here's a related story, same day, same publication, on the role of consumers in all this.

I read the same story. The Gap is appalled, blah-blah-blah, they didn't know, blah-blah-blah, they'll work on their overseas vendors, blah-blah-blah. It is of course all, pardon my French, crap. I don't for a second believe that corporations do not know the indignities and injustices done in their name anymore than I believe that latest Bush nominee for Attorney General doesn't know what waterboarding is. Sad: I used to like Gap clothing because it actually fit my frame and made it look good. Now their prices are through the roof and their labor policies remind me of Nick Kristof's stories about human trafficking in Southeast Asia. Gap on down: is there nothing we as a nation do anymore in terms of commerce that does not smack of the brothel? The last person I trusted in a corporation was Anita Roddick, RIP.
