Last evening in Istanbul

We are going out for dinner, to an Italian restaurant. (?!) Two expeditions this afternoon involving three types of public transportation; I am very proud of myself. The weather is turning bitter cold. In the morning I slept, slept, and slept. I will write more Istanbul posts in the next day or two or more, but for now I must pack, sew on a button, and enjoy dinner.

I fly out tomorrow. The storms have mostly abated in the U.S. Northeast, so I'm hoping for no JFK airport drama and no Logan airport drama. (Yes, changing planes at JFK again, this time to head for parental visit in freezing New England.)

Cat congregation of the day: seven cats on the city steps, three of them smacking their lips on a great quantity of cat food someone had left for them. Ten or so birds very close by, all doves, just hanging out on a nearby low wire. Nobody chasing anybody. The birds flew away when my large human self got closer. The cats looked up and kept eating. The ones who weren't eating kept congregating.

Jane, prayers for a pleasant(?) and safe trip home. I await your stories from the trip.
