... and slightly disoriented, even after this short time away. I did such a good job emptying my brain that writing more than a postcard seems beyond my capacity.
Yes, I saw this actual view, though the photo is courtesy of the World Wide Web. It's from Max Patch (or Max Patch Bald), a broad meadow summit with a 360 degree view, in Western North Carolina. Its height is 4,600 ft., mas o menos.
Although I don't know this particular view, it makes me quite nostalgic, as I spent large parts of my childhood at my grandparents' house in Banner Elk NC (near Boone) on Grandfather Mountain. Sigh ...
ReplyDeleteIsn't it beautiful? I hiked up there -- well, I drove to the bottom of the trail and then hiked, it was a mini-hike. It's in the same general part of the state as your grandparents'. I'm new to NC (moved here in late summer 2005) and hadn't had a chance just to hang out in the Western part of the state, and it seemed like a fine place to get some R&R. I spent a day in Asheville, too. The rest of the time I was in the boonies (though not near Boone ;-)) enjoying the fresh air.
