My friend Richard at Caught by the Light has posted a clear and useful Anglican/Episcopal timeline from the period of the American Revolution (more properly called the War of Independence, some say) to the present. I haven't read all of it but it looks good. Father Jake Stops the World has already picked it up. Richard made the timeline for his congregation originally. Thank you, Richard.
It's a pdf, so you can print it out and underline and highlight things and scribble on it to your heart's content.
Richard also welcomes feedback, additions, and corrections.
It's an excellent timeline history. I would hope that the media use it in their background research when they report on the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion, but I'm not optimistic.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he can send it to some of the media types...
ReplyDeleteReporting on religion has improved, believe it or not. (Well, you probably know that even better than I.) But it's still way behind where it ought to be.
There is even a little manual on reporting on religion now, and there is more contact between the journalism and religion fields (i.e. they actually learn about each other) than when I was a young adult.
Fox et al. will always be terrible, though. How's that for pessimism.
Hmm, maybe I will do a post on religion news and religion reporting sometime... Thanks for the idea, Grandmère Mimi.
