Live view of the Bay

Alert, all ye who long for the San Francisco Bay Area. A well-traveled friend just sent me this link to a live view of the Bay from the Lawrence Hall of Science at UC-Berkeley. The view above is from a little before 7 a.m. Pacific Time today, Sunday July 15, but if you click this link, you can see this view live, so it will be different -- and you can watch the fog lift (or, depending when you get up, see the view without the morning fog).

Sigh.

  1. Jane, just like watching the eagles on their nest. Did you ever do that? There was a video cam installed near an eagles's nest in the Northwest, and most of the time, nothing much happened except that the parents took turns sitting on the nest and hunting for food. The only action was watching feathers blow in the breeze and the sitting parent eagle looking around. Only when the parents changed places on the nest did anything happen until the babies hatched, and then it got interesting.

I loved San Francisco, and I want to go back, badly. One day.

  2. Hi Mimi,

I didn't see the eagles, but I had heard about them. If you go to that link you'll see if you scroll down just a tiny bit that you can watch yesterday's whole weather day and view in accelerated form. It's amazing. Same view of the Bay, all day, but watch the light appear, the fog and clouds moving in and out, and the sunset!

I am having culture shock back here in Greensboro. It's good to be back in my own home and with the friendliness of the South, but I do miss San Francisco. The Boston trip was great, too. I will be back up there briefly in early August for a family reunion.

How's the weather down in Louisiana right now?

Wishing you lots of nice iced tea (with a little splash of something stronger in it in the evenings) and as always greetings to Grandpère as well. How is the garden?

  3. It's hot, hot, hot, but we get showers which cool things down a bit. Last night, when I walked, the weather was quite pleasant.

We're getting corn coming out of our ears, pun intended, but the other vegetables are pretty much finished. The fresh corn is yummy. Grandpère made a corn soup with shrimp today. It's not quite done yet, so I haven't tasted it yet.

  4. Sounds delicious. I made some shrimp last night with a mango salsa: not exactly down home but good.

Then again, things may be changing down home, eh?

  5. Jane I watched the video of the whole day's weather in SF, and that was much livelier with the racing clouds and all. The quick sunset was nice, too.

  6. This has been good to look at today.

BTW, Mimi, I thought you were very good at MP's. I said I'd been for a walk and some shopping, and missed all the fun, but blogger or whatever crashed for a bit, hence this repeat.

  7. Well, thanks Johnieb. I don't take people like "J" seriously. Before MP deleted the comments, I had even elicited a bit of humor from "J", after I dared her/him to prove that s/he was not a robot.

  8. Thanks, Jane! I love this. I've placed it on the bookmark bar of my browser so I can check on Berkeley when the spirit moves.
