Anglican Underground had this to say at the start of the New Orleans meeting.
For the rest, I leave you to the sighs, commentaries, and gnashings of teeth on the various gathering places of the anglicanepiscopal blogosphere.
Including, of course, Grandmère Mimi of Louisiana.
What sighs, commentaries, and gnashing of teeth? Did you see the NY Times this morning. Unless I read it completely wrong (and you will find the one place in the 9th paragraph, 8th character in there I did:-), the bishops assembled in N'Awlins told the gentlemen of Westminster, Lambeth, and the retrograde African churches where to go and precisely how to get there. My take from the back pew? This is the rupture if not the rapture, at last, and blessedly so either way. Read this week's top page of Anglicans Online. If I take their meaning, there never has been a Communion as such, always flexible, and open to what is not even schism so much as simple addition and subtraction. If the ECUSA has to re-form itself, it will do nothing more nor less than the Polish National Catholic Church did at the end of the 19th century.
ReplyDeleteAnd Archbishop Rowan's picture will fit nicely on a revised set of Nebbish cocktail napkins.
Well, the Times as usual didn't get it quite right, and as happened after the Convention 2006 compromise with Resolution B033 (oops I am getting the number wrong) no one is happy. (Commentaries started pouring into the Episcopal blogosphere last night.) The proverbial left and the proverbial right both feel betrayed. But I am withholding my own comments and letting others say their peace. Or piece. I will post some links here in the comments section later. I need to go visit the 12th century with my little darlings.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Anglicans Online is always reasoned, thoughtful, and accurate - and they always seek to broaden their readers' horizons. (And to deepen their thinking.)
ReplyDeleteVery Anglican. :-)
Will post some links for you later.

ReplyDeleteThey also have a list of great places to shop for Anglican chochkes:-). But not always accurate. I fed them a link to Ann Madison's Atelier Beads workshop in Baltimore and they messed up the URL. Can't have it all.
