Running for the hills

Glory be to Godde, it's Fall Break in the land of we-start-the-semester-mid-August-and-we-don't-get-Monday-holidays-off.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I am heading for the mountains, as I did last May. I will have a laptop to do some writing,* but will be out of range of the internet and cell phones. Within range will be vegetarian breakfasts at the B&B, hot tubs, and the Appalachian Trail.

* There is the small matter of a paper I am giving at an international conference in early November, so in addition to sleeping and hiking (not at the same time), I hope to think deep theological thoughts and write a few of them down. If the Creator grants me a poem or two in addition to that, my cup will truly run over.

  1. Have a great time!

Next week is Reading Week here, and I'll be at the Ranch. :-)

  2. Thanks for your kind comments at my blog, Jane.

I would LOVE to do a Greensboro meet-up with you, LJ, sharecropper, and any of the other NC bloggers! Don't know about the timing---I might be able to do something Thanksgiving weekend, depending on the timing.

    Safe travels to you!

    Pax,
    Doxy

  3. Kirstin, do you get a freebie because you were a staff person last summer? I never could afford to go to the Ranch when I was a (doctoral) student until I became the Bogard Fellow at CDSP and thus was on the faculty and got to go on faculty retreat there. Gorgeous place, but too pricey for us po' folk! Have a great time. And thanks for your greetings.

Thanks to you too, Doxy. We'll figure out a date. I'll put the word out here on my blog once I am back from the holy hills.

  4. Oh, I'll be working. They particularly want me to cover so they can go to DioCon this weekend.

That's okay; hosting, studying, and hiking sound like a fantastic week.

I can, however, have a freebie anytime I ask for it; Sean said I could stay with them if the friary was full. (They are the best people.)

I worked the faculty retreat, just before I moved back here. It was like a traveling zoo exhibit!

  5. Sounds wonderfully refreshing. Do you expect leaves to be turning yet in the mountains? Ours have only begun here in the flatlands.

  6. Yes, I hear the leaves are turning. I will report, of course. (When I return. No internet up there.)

Kirstin, you lucky duck. Have a wonderful time. Are you saying the faculty were a traveling zoo? I believe it ;-).

    lj, stay tuned...
