Guadalupe was here

In Istanbul? Well, yes. The friends I visited this afternoon, who are Sufi Muslims, used to live in California (where else?) and they were raised as Christians and had a Mexican friend (also Muslim) visiting. So in honor of Guadalupe they went to visit two Marian shrines today, here in Istanbul, and had a little party to celebrate her at the end of the afternoon. Unfortunately I didn't connect with them till after they'd gone to the shrines, so I missed that part, but they invited me to tea as soon as we spoke and I went over to their place, met the Mexican friend, had several glasses of tea (yes, I will write about tea as promised, but not till tomorrow), and caught up on life with them. I also told them about running into Guadalupe in Belgium.

Tea for Guadalupe without her image but with her presence, on cushions in a sitting-room with Arabic calligraphy on the wall.

  1. not related to Guadalupe, but I enjoyed the pilgrimage to Istanbul posts, where I presume you are still?

Anyway, thanks for your comment on my blog. Wondering how you found me though. My email is merrymar at suddenlink dot net. I used to live in Winston-Salem.

  2. You and LJ and Doxy and I have chatted on one of the blogs (LJ's or Doxy's I think) on occasion and even spoke about having an NC meetup.

Yes, still in Istanbul. Only been there a few days, just posted the Guadalupe post last night. More posts tonight, about Turkish tea, Haghia Sophia, mosques et al.
