"Perfect love casteth out fear:" the Chicago Consultation

The Chicago Consultation, a group of some 50 bishops, clergy and lay people, supports the full inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered Christians in the Episcopal Church and the worldwide Anglican Communion.

The Consultation is a member of the Inclusive Church Network, a coalition of Anglican groups from the United Kingdom, Africa and the United States with a common interest in maintaining the traditional inclusiveness and diversity of the Anglican Communion.

The Consultation will have a presence at Lambeth and has prepared carefully for the meeting. The group has sent out to every bishop in the Anglican Communion a copy of Other Voices, Other Worlds: The Global Church Speaks Out on Homosexuality, edited by Terry Brown, Bishop of Malaita in the Church of the Province of Melanesia and Convenor of the Anglican Way group of the Anglican Primates' Theological Education for the Anglican Communion Task Force. If you haven't seen the book yet, do have a look; it's well worth reading.

Bishops who have participated in the Consultation are from Brazil, Canada, El Salvador, Mexico, and the U.S. The Consultation Steering Committee is made up of laypeople and clergy from the U.S. and Canada (including my esteemed editor at the Episcopal Café, Jim Naughton).

  1. I think this is brilliant - every time I read about it I start to think... and then I remember what TEC diocese I am in and what RC diocese I am in.
