ToujoursDan reminded us on Facebook that today is World Malaria Day. I see that he also has a post about this on his blog. Did you know that malaria is the single biggest killer of children under the age of five on the African continent?
Dan also wants everyone to know that for just $10 you can buy a net that will protect an African child from Malaria and save a life. Go here to give.
Note: I went to the site and made a "Spread the Net" donation and noticed that it is the UNICEF Canada site. Nothing wrong at all with that, but I think the $10 are thus Canadian dollars.

World Malaria Day? And I forgot to send a card. . .
ReplyDeleteI usually perform Malaria Prevention by drinking a couple gin and tonics every few weeks.
The Mile of Pennies gal is singing with us tonight and promised to give me an accounting of our contributions to date. Once that is finished, I hope to get the children going on nets for awhile then moving up to something like chickens or rabbits.
ReplyDeleteThanks for getting the word out, Jane. I added this to my heart thread this morning after making my donation.
ReplyDeleteDear Ms Redmont,
ReplyDeleteOn the 25th April 2010 the global community will mark World Malaria Day 2010.
Last year you externally linked to World Malaria Day website, which we are very grateful for. We were wondering if you could extend your support this year by downloading and displaying the World Malaria Day Button on your website alongside the link, in order to further raise awareness of the day.
The World Malaria Day button virtual campaign began in 2008 and is a collaborative initiative with the Roll Back Malaria Partnership. It can be viewed on all websites, blogs and social networking profiles. The aim is to have it on as many websites as possible by World Malaria Day - the 25th of April 2010. By clicking on the button, visitors are directed to both to the World Malaria Day civil society website (www.worldmalariaday.org) and RBM’s World Malaria Day homepage (http://www.rollbackmalaria.org/worldmalariaday ).
You can download the button at http://www.worldmalariaday.org/add_button.cfm
We do hope you will be able to take the time to show your support in this way. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me!
Many Thanks
Sarah Pickwick
