A Labor Day op-ed

A good Labor Day essay by my friend Algernon D'Ammassa. The punctuation problems, by the way, are courtesy of his editor; they're not his doing. The essay was published in the Deming (New Mexico) Headlight.

  1. Glad you liked it. You and Algernon would like each other. He's a Dharma Teacher from the Kwan Um School of Zen Buddhism who is also a stage actor (and member of Actors' Equity, the union) and a public school drama teacher -- and a writer besides. Nice and quirky (Alg are you reading this? You know that's a compliment) and funny. You can see him on my FB page. He and his spouse are the parents of one very cute kid named Gabriel who is a little over one year old. They moved to New Mexico a year or so ago (maybe longer, my sense of time is a little warped) from California. Algernon is from Rhode Island originally. We met over a decade ago on a Zen listserv but have been friends irl for years.

  2. You're too kind! Thanks for the link. I dropped out of the actors' union a while ago because I could not keep up with the dues anymore (that was in my Dharma Zen Center period, living on a few bucks a day). Now I belong to a teachers' union.
