A month of fabulous holy women

We are in for treats in the commemoration department in the July Episcopal calendar.

Padre Rob has written a lovely post, and very informative too, on Catherine Winkworth, whose many hymns we sing. She translated German hymns into English. She was also, I learned from Rob, a women's rights activist. Have a look. The Lutheran Church (ELCA) also remembers Winkworth on this day. (Well, on July 1, but the feast was transferred because it fell on a Sunday.)

All of which continues to prove one of my mottoes: Never underestimate the church ladies.
